Main Objective: Housing for all by the year 2022, 2 crore in Urban and 3 Crore homes in Rural areas. This scheme is available for both PMAY(U) urban as well as PMAY(R) rural setup.

Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (U) is an ambitious scheme of Narendra Modi Government. Under the PMAY, the government aims to provide about 5 Crore affordable homes to the people belonging to Economically Weaker Section and Lower Income Group categories by the year 2022. There is a target of building 2 crore homes in urban area and 3 crore in rural areas across the country.

It provides houses to all poor in urban areas by 2022. It is a new version of prime ministers housing for all by 2022 vision. Its objective is to construct 2 crore houses across Nation it covers entire urban area consisting of 4041 statutory towns with initial focus on 500 class 1 cities.

The intended beneficiaries of the scheme are poor people (that is below the poverty line), and people living under economically weaker section (EWS), low income group (LIG), and also people living under middle income group (MIG). Government will provide subsidy ranging between 1 to 2 lakh to people from above categories in order to make them secure.
